(SHARING THROUGH LATIN AMERICA)
A Project for Dance Education and Modern Dance Outreach in Latin America
Founder & Director: Sharon Zulay Moreno
Compartiendo Por LATAM is an artistic, educational, and cultural initiative created by professional Panamanian dancer Sharon Zulay Moreno. The project aims to democratize access to professional modern dance training in Latin American countries, particularly in communities with limited resources and little institutional support for the arts.
This initiative provides workshops, master classes, artistic residencies, and accessible professional development opportunities focused on modern dance, with an emphasis on Graham technique, which has historically been unavailable or inaccessible to many in the region.
Sharon Zulay began her dance training in Panama at the University of Panama and the National School of Dance under the Ministry of Culture. From the start, she faced the challenges many Latin American artists endure economic and social obstacles that often limit access to high-quality arts education in arts.
After years of perseverance, Sharon achieved her dream of studying at the prestigious Martha Graham School in New York City, the birthplace of one of the most influential techniques in the history of modern dance. This transformative experience highlighted not only the value of specialized training but also the deep inequities that prevent most aspiring Latin American dancers from accessing such education.
Provide accessible professional modern dance training, especially in Graham technique, to dancers in Latin American countries.
Support the artistic development of emerging talent through workshops tailored to local contexts and needs.
Promote cultural and artistic exchange between Latin American artists through collaborative learning experiences.
Reinforce the value of dance as a tool for social transformation, cultural identity, and community empowerment.
Intensive modern dance workshops (both in-person and virtual), focused on Graham technique.
Collaborative artistic residencies with local dance institutions, schools, and independent collectives.
Low-cost or free master classes in underserved communities.
Lectures and dialogues on the social, cultural, and historical importance of modern and Afro-Latin dance.
Creation of a support network of educators and dancers to ensure sustainable growth beyond each visit.
The project seeks to create tangible social and cultural impact in the lives of students and emerging artists across Latin America. By providing direct access to high-level training, COMPARTIENDO POR LATAM offers a realistic path toward professionalization, while empowering communities through movement, history, and embodied identity.
COMPARTIENDO POR LATAM is designed to be a scalable and sustainable model, with potential for long-term collaboration with educational institutions, cultural centers, and dance festivals in countries all around Latin America. The mid-term vision is to establish an international platform for modern dance education and outreach, grounded in the values of accessibility, inclusion, artistic excellence, and cultural cooperation.
As founder, director, choreographer, and lead educator, Sharon is the driving force behind the project. Her international experience and specialized training in Graham technique position her as an artistic leader with a deep social commitment, capable of creating meaningful and lasting change in the development of dance across Latin America.
The following images illustrate the reach and impact of COMPARTIENDO POR LATAM in Panama, Chile, and Colombia. These activities including workshops, performances, and community-based training have been entirely self-managed and independently funded by Sharon Zulay Moreno, demonstrating both her commitment to the project and her ability to implement international cultural initiatives with meaningful results.
